The kitchen includes a large number of diverse high-tech appliances that require power from the electrical grid. There is a need to accommodate a large number of electrical sockets, which must meet certain criteria. Outlets for the kitchen should be protected from water and fire, located in accessible places, do not interfere with comfortable movement and work, and also fit into the overall design of the room.
The kitchen has many different surfaces in which you can place embedded electrical sockets. Recessed and retractable sockets for countertops or kitchen cabinets will help get rid of excess wires and extension cords, maintain a neat and technological look of the working space.

Placement of built-in and retractable outlets
All work equipment in the kitchen is usually located on three levels: lower, middle and upper. The first level includes electrical appliances at the level of the lower cabinets: dishwasher and washing machine, stove and oven. On the second level, there is a small table-top technique: various combines, coffee makers, kettles, toasters, blenders, and more. Technique on the third level is less numerous and may include, for example, lighting or hood.
Power sockets for level one placed on 10-15 cm from the floor. For always-on appliances, such as a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, you must install a separate electrical unit with grounding.
Electrical sockets of the second level are placed on the area of the kitchen apron or embedded in the countertop. Such power sockets are usually visually hidden as much as possible so as not to spoil the look of the interior. Currently common blocks, which consist of several outlets.
For mounting on the tabletop, outlets with a sliding mechanism are used, which are immersed in the cabinet surface and easily pushed out of it by a simple touch of a hand. There are also plug-in sockets, which are mounted in a niche tabletop. Plug in sockets usually equipped with a lidwhich protects them from litter and accidental ingress of moisture. An increasingly popular option is also the installation of corner power sockets at the joints of the walls or under the bottom of the wall cabinets.
Third level power sockets are mounted at a distance of 10 cm from the top of the cabinets. They are also suitable for connecting air conditioners and fans.
To count the number of required electrical sockets, you should determine the number of permanently connected appliances (refrigerator, stove), periodically used appliances (kettle, blender, mixer). To the resulting number are added 2-3 more pieces.
Of great importance is the type of installed power outlets. The hob must be plugged into a receptacle of heat-resistant, non-combustible components. Power sockets located near the water source should have increased protection against moisture (IP 44). Sockets with high power reserves and grounding (power 20-25 A.) are installed under powerful devices.
Retractable sockets, recessed into the worktop, have a large number of advantages:
- they allow not to waste time on connecting an extension cord or the nearest free outlet;
- they free up space in the kitchen from constantly confused and lost wires;
- they allow you to simultaneously connect several electronic devices in one unit;
- they are out of the reach of children, protected from moisture;
- they preserve the aesthetically pleasing appearance of the kitchen and give it a modern style.
Among the manufacturers of built-in and retractable power outlets for the countertop can be distinguished most famous brands:
- German Evoline;
- Spanish Simon Connect;
- Russian Ecoplast;
- French Schneider Electric.
The models of electrical sockets of these companies are of high quality, diverse functionality, variety of colors and shapes.
Installation rules built-in retractable outlet
To build the socket in the tabletop is quite simple and it can be done on its own. Before starting the installation of the socket block, it is necessary to connect the electrical wiring to it. On the surface of the tabletop there is a place under the measured dimensions of the outlet. A perforator with the required nozzle is cut a hole in the tabletop under the recess. Installation boxes and fasteners that come in the kit, allow you to securely fix the socket in the recess. The complete set of sliding electrosockets also includes safety locks from power surges. After installation, it is included in the power grid and the protective strips are mounted.
Installing the outlet in the surface of the kitchen apron
Sockets are installed before facing the apron after plastering the walls. To do this, using a perforator or a round crown, holes are drilled in the wall, into which the flush holes are installed.
During the subsequent facing of the apron, in the locations of the underside of the openings, holes are left into which the cores of the electrical sockets are installed. Next, the sockets are connected to a common electrical outlet and covered with protective panels.
Do not install more than 4 outlets on the apron. They should also be located at some distance above the tabletop level so that they are not blocked by the objects on it. In addition, they should not be placed too close to the surfaces of the gas stove and sink.
